Black Alpha Irish Whiskey

The Irish Lion

The Irish Lion

A Whiskey with Purpose

This distinctive Irish whiskey pays tribute to the extraordinary life of Robert Blair “Paddy” Mayne - soldier, sportsman, and founding member of the SAS. Created with the blessing of the Mayne family, every element of this release has been thoughtfully designed to honour his remarkable legacy.

Presented in a premium rigid presentation box, the bottle is steeped in history. The front label features design elements taken from the original 1938 British rugby touring team (‘The Lions’) South Africa booklet, combined with imagery sourced from original photographs of Blair himself. The rear label showcases a reproduction of the official tour itinerary, complete with Blair’s own handwritten scores - a rare and personal historical detail. Together, these elements form a genuinely unique presentation, rooted in original source material and rarely seen in modern whisky releases.

A collectable neck tag has been specially created to replicate the original player card of Robert Blair Mayne from the 1938 tour, adding another authentic, tangible connection to his sporting life.

A balanced blend of 10-year-old grain whiskey, finished in ex-Calvados casks, and fully sherry-matured single malt, bottled at 46% ABV. Notes of honey and tinned peaches on the nose lead into green apple, ginger cake and burnt caramel, with a gentle warming finish.

More than just a whiskey, this is a bottle with purpose. £5 from every bottle is donated to War Years Remembered, helping preserve vital wartime history, and £1 is donated to Combat Stress, a leading mental health charity supporting veterans.

A whiskey rich in story, crafted to be shared, remembered, and appreciated.
